At Raithwaite Sandsend we are looking for an Assistant Gardener/Grower to support our Head Grower in producing seasonal organic produce for our Hotel Restaurant, Bar and Kitchen.
We have recently won a Hotel Catey award for ‘The Most Sustainable Hotel of the Year 2021’. We focus on sustainability throughout the hotel, with all the ingredients that we use having a story to tell.
The no-dig vegetable garden and recently planted forest garden are exciting new additions to our grounds and our sustainable systems. As our Assistant Gardener/Grower you will play an important role in realising our ‘harvest to plate’ approach.
Responsibilities:
- Support Head Grower with planting and harvesting schedule to cope with seasonal demands.
- Propagating and growing fruit, vegetables and herbs utilising regenerative and organic practices.
- Growing and harvesting produce to the quality standard needed for onsite restaurant.
- Supporting our local ecosystem within our environmental sustainability criteria.
- Ensure highest possible presentation of the Kitchen Garden to be enjoyed by our guests.
- Operating garden tools and equipment.
- Compliance with all relevant health and safety rules and legislation.
- Weekend cover will be required.
Our ideal candidate will have a passion for gardening, in particular growing vegetables and fruits, and a knowledge of effective organic growing techniques. Although experience within a similar role is preferred, it is not essential. A candidate with a keen interest in horticulture and vegetable growing may be considered as training can be provided. Guests will also be invited to enjoy our kitchen garden, so a friendly, sociable, professional disposition is essential.
