We’re Officially A Carbon Neutral Hotel
We’re pleased to announce that we are now a carbon neutral business, but this is just one step in our sustainability journey. At Raithwaite, we’re continuously working to reduce our impact on the environment, whether that’s buying locally and seasonally or launching our own organic kitchen garden. As part of this journey, we know that reducing our carbon emissions are vital – and that any climate change strategy has to include rigorous measuring of those emissions. That’s why we’ve been working with Environmental Strategies Ltd to measure our carbon footprint as a business.
This has included both Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased energy). By measuring our carbon footprint, we’ve been able to offset those emissions with a variety of worthwhile projects, including funding a project in north-eastern Brazil[1] that protects rainforest previously earmarked for deforestation, and contributing towards a renewable hydroelectric plant in Turkey.
This is just our first step towards becoming carbon net zero. Our target to reach this challenging milestone is 2028, and will involve a significant reduction in our carbon emissions, as well as ongoing offsetting. Watch this space…
