Our dark skies are just perfect for the starry-eyed…

Did you know that we’re located right next to an official Dark Skies Reserve, one of only 16 in the whole of the UK? The North York Moors received the accolade in 2020, and right now is the best time to take in the area’s incredible starry skies.

Being designated as a Dark Skies Reserve is rare, as it means the area must suffer from very little light pollution, offering fantastic views of stars and constellations. Combined with the neighbouring Yorkshire Dales National Park, the total area makes it one of the biggest Dark Skies Reserves in all of Europe.

To celebrate, the North York Moors are currently holding a Dark Skies Festival until early March, offering all sorts of activities to keep the starry-eyed entertained. There are stargazing trails in the Park Centres, nocturnal tours of the Moors, astrophotography workshops and nighttime walks around Whitby. Or you can just head outside on our estate with a warming drink and gaze skywards for those breathtaking views,
