Full steam ahead – We’ve got lots of exciting plans for Raithwaite…
Last year saw lots of change at Raithwaite Sandsend, with our brilliant team working hard on improving our hotel, starting with the stylish renovation of our Bar and Restaurant and giving our rooms a gentle refresh.
We made big steps into our sustainability journey, which is firmly at the core of everything we do at Raithwaite, from staff to local suppliers and guests, from aiming to go 100% organic and zero-waste in our restaurant, to kitting out our bar staff with cool new uniforms, made of canvas cotton, a sturdy and environmentally-friendly material.
Our talented chefs have also introduced a new Feasting menu that makes the most of a showstopper centrepiece to be shared by the whole table, which reduces food waste without compromising on flavours.
We’re also proud to have planted our very own Forest Garden, in collaboration with Sapling Spirits, on the Raithwaite grounds, the very first of its kind in the UK.
And, best of all, we are incredibly proud to have won the Catey Award for “Most Sustainable Hotel of the Year”. We were delighted and thought it a fitting way to wrap up the year and pave the way into 2022.

Speaking of this year, we’ll soon be introducing new key cards made out of recyclable wood sourced from carefully managed forests, and in April we’re planting 500 more shrubs and bushes in our Forest Garden. Spring will see the launch of the Crab Shack, a food truck serving the freshest fish and chips, crab sandwiches and burgers to be enjoyed on our grounds or by the beach, a short walk away.
We can’t wait to see you back here to enjoy it all with us.
