With the picturesque town of Whitby and the coastal shores of Sandsend nearby – and the epic landscapes of the North York Moors National Park a quick drive away – we know we’re spoilt with our location for a Yorkshire stay. From surfing lessons with the local pros to lung-busting hikes or leisurely shopping trips, you can do as much (or as little) as you wish at Raithwaite Sandsend.

Hit the surf and catch some waves with our in-house Surf School. Never touched a surfboard before? No problem. Our pro teachers will teach you the basics and get you up on your feet in no time. Or for those that already know their carves from their kick-outs, improve your style with the latest kit and top tips, either in a private lesson or in small groups of up to five from the same family.

Lessons take place in the secret surf-spot of Sandsend, known only to local insiders, with reliable waves just made for learning on. Have a chat to our Concierge for more info and to book.

Stand-up Paddleboarding

Head out on the waves on a stand-up paddleboard (SUP), the perfect way to explore the Yorkshire coastline. Our hotel Concierge can fix you up with all the latest gear, including wetsuits, and offer advice on where to go.

Beach Yoga

Stretch out and breathe deep with our new beach yoga sessions, from energising morning Ashtanga flow to sunset Hatha, all with the rolling waves as your backdrop. Led by expert instructors on Sandsend beach, you can opt for either one-on-one sessions or small-groups lessons for up to five people from the same family. Lessons are subject to availability, so just ask our Concierge.

Strap on your boots, step outside and you’re off… Many of Yorkshire’s loveliest walks begin right on our Raithwaite estate, while others are just a short drive away. From three-day hikes along the Cleveland Way, to child-friendly beach wanders or even just a pre-lunch forest stroll – ask at reception for a full range of walking routes and advice, or to book a guided walk with an experienced hotel team member.

Day Trips

Our coastal location means there’s an astonishing variety of local attractions to keep you busy, from the breathtaking expanse of the North York Moors National Park and its steam heritage train, to the gorgeous village of Robin Hood’s Bay or the historic harbour town of Whitby. And then there are the beautiful beaches, offering rock-pooling for little ones and seabound adventures for everyone else. Have a chat to our Concierge to find out more.
