From surfing lessons with the local pros to lung-busting hikes or leisurely shopping jaunts, you can do as much (or as little) as you wish at Raithwaite Sandsend.

Springtime in Yorkshire is a colourful affair, and the fairer weather and longer days make it all the easier to enjoy our glorious outdoors. Take long leisurely walks with the dog, try your hand at fly fishing, or paint your own masterpiece – you might just be the next David Hockney.


Hike to charming Runswick Bay, stroll over to the historic harbour town of Whitby, or keep things local and explore our beautiful gardens at Raithwaite Sandsend, which come into full bloom during spring. Pick up one of our informative walking packs for more ideas.


Make the most of the wild outdoors with a sunny ride over the Esk, taking in the fabulous views as you head towards Robin Hood’s Bay. Pick up a pack at Reception offering a range of suggested bike trails.

Fly Fishing

Brewery Tours

This one’s for beer-lovers. Learn how the finest craft beers and ales are created in our corner of Yorkshire with a trip to a local brewery. Tours can be arranged, subject to availability.

Our Grounds

Escape route trail: Take your chances and follow the exciting clues to get round our escape route trail, suitable for all ages. Chat to the team at reception for more information.

Brass rubbing: Perfect for families, our brass rubbing trail takes you on a scene route through our gorgeous grounds, with picturesque brass rubbing spots en route. The team at reception can tell you all about it.

DIY garden tour: Discover our award-winning landscaped grounds with our in-house guide, which can be picked up from Reception, including a map of the gardens. You’ll find QR codes as you walk, revealing snippets of info on the flora and fauna you might see along the way.

Sunday sessions: Jazz, soul, indie-folk… we’ve got it covered. From June onwards, enjoy live performances by local artists on our balmy outdoor terrace at Raithwaite Sandsend. Sundays 4pm – 6pm, subject to weather.

Fete games: We have a wide selection of traditional outdoor games for our guests to enjoy. From Giant Jenga, to Boules and Croquet, Quoits and Tin Can Alley, we’ll guarantee that everyone (little ones included) will have buckets of fun. Please ask at Reception for more details.
